With a huge career change (from Financial Services), three tiny tots under 4, and a relocation to North Berwick, when it was time to return to work, I decided to pursue a career in something I absolutely adore – gardening.
Having several design projects under my belt, but lacking the time and money needed to go back to University, I was accepted to undertake a voluntary garden apprenticeship at Greywalls http://greywalls.co.uk/about/gardens/ (the Gardens being attributed to one of my favourite garden designers, Gertrude Jekyll), under the hugely accomplished Head Gardener, Neil Davidson which was one of the best decisions (and jobs) I have ever made.
Whilst I am currently self-studying garden design and planting planning in my spare time I do hope to pursue academic qualifications once my children are a little older.
Armed with practical knowledge and love of design and plant planning, I also took on several child related garden projects (handy for getting the kids outside and teaching them about life) and due to interest, I started to write gardening with children features on popular blog weeslice.com.
Having designed several gardens from scratch I set up my own Business, The Lady Gardener in 2017. Here I carry out all aspects of gardening, and plant planning and garden design.
I also incorporate as much of what I do, on social media in the hope that those that follow me can be inspired – No matter what age or sex you are, horticulture is a wonderfully self rewarding Industry to work within – I strongly recommend it – so follow me! @The_Lady_Gardener .
Last year, I also set up “East Lothian Seed, Cuttings, Plant Club” on Facebook. This is a free seed, plant and cuttings exchange page for those throughout East Lothian who have an interest in growing their gardening knowledge through friendship, plant exchange and advice. @East Lothian Seed, Cuttings, Plant Club
